It’s that time of year and time to think ahead to the Mitre’s Tuesday evening TT’s and Hill Climbs.
Run on Tuesday evenings and free to Mitre members (£5 for non-members), this year we have 8 events including an interclub TT. Things are a little different this year in that we are trialling at Tuesday evening Ditchling Beacon Hill Climb on 26th August in addition to our usual jollies on Mill Hill.
Full details of all the events can be found on the CTT website here. For the club events, no need to pre-register, just turn up on the evening. Entries close 18.50, first rider off at 19:01. For the Open events, entries close 2 weeks prior to the event. Please keep an eye on the Brighton Mitre Instagram account for any last minute changes / updates. Bad weather may stop TT’s but it doesn’t tend to stop hill climbs.
Running alongside and as part of the Mitre events is the South Downs Hill Climb Series. More details can be found here but it’s a cracking series which takes in the following events / climbs :-
- 28th Sept 25 – Knight’s Hill
- 4th Oct 25 – Steyning Bostal
- 5th Oct – Brantridge Lane
- 11th Oct 25 – Firle Beacon and Butts Lane Double header (ride one or both)
- 18th Oct 25 – Steyning Bostal and Titch Hill Double header (ride one or both)
- 19th Oct 25 – Ditchling Beacon
The finale of the Hill Climbing season is the Nationals which this year are up Bank Road in Matlock on Sunday 26th Oct 25.

All the club events are run on a “Come and Try it” basis and there is no barrier to entry. All you will need to comply with regulations is a working front and rear light and a helmet. You don’t need a TT bike or a pointy helmet for TT as there is a road bike category. You don’t need a sub 5kg bike to do a hill climb. Just turn up, have a laugh and give it a crack. Whether you consider it a training ride, an opportunity to better your PB or see how close you can get to the time of our very own former National TT Champion (Road Bike) Cris Coxon, it doesn’t matter. They are fun social events and all local enough so that you can ride to and from the event if desired.
In both there is an open and a female category.
